Annotations to Master's programs

Different kinds of master's programs

Consecutive master's programs often build on homonymous bachelor's programs. Here you will deepen and specialise your knowledge acquired before. For each bachelor's program at TUM there exist at least one consecutive master's program. Some master's programs do not build on a specific bachelor's program but graduates from different bachelor's programs are accepted. These programs demand specific knowledge but it can be gained in different bachelor's programs.

Example: With a degree in Mechanical Engineering the following master's programs can be completed: Industrial Design, Aerospace Engineering, mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Robotics | Cognition | Intelligence, etc.

Executive master's programs require work experience. In some cases these are part-time programs combinable with your daily work. Furthermore, these courses have extra tuition fees.

Example: With a degree in Electronical Engineering and Information Technology the following executive master's programs can be completed: ClimaDesign, Intellectual Property and Competition Law, Executive MBA  Communication and Leadership, etc.

Master's programs take one or two years (= full-time). Executive master's programs with their specific structures have a different standard period of study.

To find out which master's program suits your bachelor's degree please contact TUM Student Service Center - Student Counseling.

Requirements

Admission requirements for a master's program are a first academic degree and the successful completion of an aptitude test.

Academic degrees: Usually any first academic degree (Bachelor, Magister, Diploma, State Examination) from a state or state-approved university will be accepted. The academic departements define in their examination regulations which subject-specific qualifications are required for a specific master's program.

Aptitude test: The examination committee will decide after an application if prospective students meet the requirements (= aptitude test). If only single qualifications are missing the examination committee may decide that some modules of the Bachelor's program have to be completed in addition. For an appraisment of qualifications please contact the academic counsellor of the specific master's program.

At TUM the following degrees will be awarded depending on the field of studies: Master of Arts (MA), Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Education (MEd), Master of Laws (LLM), Master of Science (MSc), and Master of Science with honours (MSc with honours).
