STUDIENKOLLEG
The purpose of the Studienkolleg is to prepare international students (who have a diploma or exam which entitles them to study at a university in their home country) for the Assessment Exam, that qualifies them to study at a german university.
Studienkolleg courses are taught as modules and the period of study is generally one year (two semesters). Depending on the desired course of study at TUM, a potential student will be placed in the “T-Course” for technical (engineering) fields, mathematics, and the physical sciences or the “M-Course” for potential medical and biology students.

Prerequisites for attending the Studienkolleg
Normally only those applicants who need to take the Assessment Exam attend the “Studienkolleg“. This depends on the schooling or degree obtained at home. The assessment test does not have to be taken at the university where the student will study later on. Studienkolleg does not offer any general German language courses for students interested in the German language and it does not offer language courses for beginners.
Befor attending the Studienkolleg, applicants have to pass an acceptance test, that checks their language proficiency in German (in Munich usually the test takes place in February and September, two weeks before the semester starts).
The TU München Admissions Office temporarily registers Studienkolleg students as “Vorbereitungsstudium für ausländische Studienbewerber” (“Preparatory Study for International Student Applicants”) until they either pass or fail the aAssessment Exam.
