Foreign higher education entrance qualification

German applicants

All applicants who have acquired their university entrance qualification at a foreign high school must apply to uni-assist for preliminary inspection documentation of their university entrance qualification before applying for their university place. Uni-assist issues preliminary inspection documentation which you can then use to apply directly through the online portal of TU München.

Foreign applicants

Prerequisites

Prospective students from abroad who apply for admission to study at the Technical University of Munich require qualification for admission to higher education just like prospective German students.

Direct admission to study at the Technical University of Munich depends primarily on whether the secondary school qualifications attained abroad may be equated with a German qualification for admission to higher education. If the secondary school qualification is not equivalent to a German qualification for admission to higher education, then direct admission may only take place after attendance in the Studienkolleg and successful passing of the assessment test. The DAAD brochure “Studying in Germany” contains the information you will need to determine if you can be directly admitted to your desired course of study.

Subject Restriction

If you are only able to study certain subjects with your qualification for admission to higher education in your home country, then this subject restriction also applies to admission to study at the Technical University of Munich. An application is possible only for those courses of study which you may also study in your home country.

Review of Secondary School Qualifications

  • All applicants who have acquired their university entrance qualification at a foreign high school must apply to uni-assist preliminary inspection documentation of their university entrance qualification before applying for their university place.
  • Uni-assist decides in accordance with the uniformly valid guidelines of the Central Office for Foreign Education  as to whether your qualification for admission to higher education is evaluated like a German qualification for admission to higher education.
  • There is no uniform regulation in this regard since this depends on the country in which you attained your secondary school qualification. An initial orientation aid in order to determine whether your qualification for admission to higher education will be recognized as a prerequisite for admission in order to study at the Technical University of Munich is provided by the ZAB Information System for Recognition of Foreign Qualifications anabin ('Zentralstelle für ausländisches Bildungswesen').
