MODES OF STUDY
First-time students ("Erststudium")
Students who have not obtained a degree (from a German university) yet. A “Erststudium“ is subject to contribution, and costs 500 euros per term.
Second-time students ("Zweitstudium")
Applicants for a "Zweitstudium" are persons who have already obtained a degree from a German university and who would now like to apply for a second course of studies resulting in a diploma, bachelor degree or state examination. A “Zweitstudium“ is chargeable just like first course of study subject to contribution, and costs 500 euros per term.
Studying for two degrees at the same time (“Doppelstudium“)
For a “Doppelstudium“ a separate application has to be filed with admissions in addition to the regular application for enrollment. Each case is decided on individually. The applicant will be notified in writing.
Exchange program
TUM has established a separate course of studies for program students. It is called Program Course of Studies. Program students are students studying at TUM for a maximum of three terms in the context of an exchange program (e.g. SOKRATES, TEMPUS, DAAD) or a bilateral study agreement. In case the official application deadlines cannot be met, it is possible for program students to enroll during the course of a term, while the university is already in session. In all cases the confirmed selection by the home university and an online-application with TUM are required.
Doctorates (“Promotion“)
In order to apply for a doctorate you need to have completed your studies with very good results. If you decide on persuing a doctorate you should have already selected a topic and you should have looked for a Ph.D. advisor who will supervise your doctorate.
Enrollment as a guest student is possible for the fall term and for the spring term and takes place solely during the second week of the university session (see deadlines)at the admissions office (“Immatrikulationsamt“). Address: Arcisstrasse 21, room 0023 between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. With the exception of enrollment for didactics courses (students of the LMU) enrollment is subject to fees. The amount is staggered. It is 100 euros for up to four semester periods per week, 200 euros for up to eight semester periods per week and 300 euros for more than eight semester periods per week. A student ID is not issued.
However, it is not possible to be evaluated or to take exams as a guest student. It is not possible to attend laboratory courses or do internships in courses of study with restricted admissions. Generally guest students are not admitted to study medical science.
Participants of the non-academic education Sport as a Freelance Profession are enrolled also as guest students. The fee is € 100 per term. The participants of this vocational course take the required examinations accordingly.
