“Our EURO 2020?” – falling apart in politics versus unification in sports: The consumption of European products and services in the context of Europe-hosted mega-events

Are you interested in health and management? The Department of Sport & Health Management offers students who will be graduating from the TUM Faculty of Sports and Health Science or the TUM School of Management the possibility for interdisciplinary research (i.e., write a bachelor or master thesis)..

The EURO 2020 will be the first mega-event in sports that will be hosted by a number of countries in the European Union. While politicians are facing hard times to argue why European countries should be unified, the EURO 2020 will unify the countries more than ever in sports. The thesis aims to answer the question whether this mega-event can increase sales of products and services in countries that have moved apart from each other politically (e.g., Germany and Greece) when they collaborate on a sporting level (e.g., fan tourism, sponsorships)..

How do foreign players and country images affect a sports leagues’ marketing strategies in foreign markets?

Are you interested in health and management? The Department of Sport & Health Management offers students who will be graduating from the TUM Faculty of Sports and Health Science or the TUM School of Management the possibility for interdisciplinary research (i.e., write a bachelor or master thesis)..

To generate revenues, sports leagues aim to market the core product (e.g., broadcasts of sports games) in both national and international markets. To date, it is unclear how the nationality of foreign players – and, hence, country-of-origin effects of these players – affect the potential to sell the product in foreign markets. The thesis aims to uncover these relationships and identify attractive foreign markets from the perspective of sports leagues..

Coopetition and internationalization strategies in professional sports

Are you interested in health and management? The Department of Sport & Health Management offers students who will be graduating from the TUM Faculty of Sports and Health Science or the TUM School of Management the possibility for interdisciplinary research (i.e., write a bachelor or master thesis)..

Coopetition describes competitive cooperation. It is common practice when sports clubs organize themselves in leagues. The goal of the thesis is to analyze strategies that help professional sports clubs advertise both the club and the league in foreign markets. The thesis identifies success factors that explain the popularity of sports leagues in foreign markets. It also identifies situations where a conflict may arise between cooperation and competition with sports clubs within the league..

When does good management go along with sporting success? Identifying moderating variables

Are you interested in health and management? The Department of Sport & Health Management offers students who will be graduating from the TUM Faculty of Sports and Health Science or the TUM School of Management the possibility for interdisciplinary research (i.e., write a bachelor or master thesis)..

Does professionalization in sports clubs also mean that a team is more successful? The thesis aims to elaborate this relationship. Its goal is to identify situational factors that influence the relationship between managerial competence and sporting success, such as the press environment (as one would assume for the 1. FC Köln in the football Bundesliga), the fit between management and relevant stakeholders (e.g., head coach of the team, head coach of the young players, fans), and the influence of investors onto the club (such as for English or French soccer clubs)..
