Application and support

In addition to the Max Weber Programme in Bavaria, the TUM offers those students who have been awarded scholarships under the provisions of the Bavarian Elite Support Law the possibility of participating in the "Experienced approach to research" promotional programme. No separate application is required. The conditions for for Application and support within the context of the Max Weber Programme are applicable. All students who are enrolled at the TUM and have been accepted for the Max Weber Programme, or who hold a scholarship under the Bavarian support programme for the highly gifted (last granted in September 2004), will also be accepted for the "Experienced approach to research" promotional programme.

Goals of the programme

The goals of the promotional programme include creating personal connections between the academic teaching staff and the university students, their motivation towards performance, scientific activity, periods of study abroad and a sense of common identity between the active and the former members of the university. Enlisting emeritus professors, who have already officially retired, ensures that the consummate valuable knowledge and years of experience acquired by this group of academics is put at the university's service.

The programme's main focus

Mentoring

The scholarship holders are personally mentored in small groups by professors of international repute, who are chosen by the TUM's senior university management, and are invited to attend regular meetings. All professors taking part in this scheme are emeritus professors who are, as a rule, largely released from university obligations. They work on a voluntary basis within the framework of the TUM promotional programme and are at the scholarship holders' disposal for personal consultation on general or more specialised questions related to their studies.

Personality-forming seminars

With the help of personality-forming seminars, featuring lectures held by outstanding personalities from industry, politics, science and society, as well as discussions with their colleagues, the students not only obtain important information on international corporations and scientific organisations in Germany but also have access to possible professional openings.

The students' commitment

The students are requested to report regularly on the progress made in their studies and to contribute towards the success of the "TUM Track-proven/Expert approach to research" promotional programme through personal commitment, by accepting responsibilities as tutors for younger semesters or participating in the TUM's high-school programme, for instance.
