What is a MWNID
Your Munich Science Network ID Number (Münchner Wissenschaftsnetzidentifikationsnummer - MWNID) is an unique ID number issued to all students and employees of colleges and institutes in Munich which are connected to the Munich Science Network (MWN) through the Leibniz-Rechenzentrum (LRZ).
The MWNID is a fixed 16-digit hexadecimal ID. It is issued to every student/employee and is permanent, so it is kept even on leaving university or after changing the job. It is valid throughout the whole MWN network, for example at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität, the Leibniz-Rechenzentrum etc. Among other uses, it is required for online registrations and access to computer rooms.
On a change from one member of the MWN to another member, as it may happen when changing from one university to another, you keep your MWNID. Only the personal information and userdata is changed. As we want to avoid issuing multiple MWNIDs to a single person, please prompt your existing MWNID when you change within the MWN!
