TeleTeachingTool

TeleTeachingTool

Description: TeleTeachningTool (TTT) is used and further developed in Lehrstuhl II (sub-division II) of the informatics department. The recording method used is called screen recording. It digitally captures the lecturer's computer and saves it. During a presentation with a selectable presentation software an Internet browser may be used or an animation may be showed. Any desktop activity, slides, audio and video signals are recorded and instantly combined to an electronic lecture. Students also have the possibility to view the lecture live on their computers.

Technical procedure: A VNC server is installed on the lecturer's office pc on which the presentation slides are saved. An additional computer is required which functions as TTT server and is responsible for recording the lecture and transmitting the desktop, audio and video data to TTT clients. The TTT server is linked with the VNC server of the lecturer's computer via a VNC client and combines audio, video and desktop into a complete lecture. TTT clients are used to receive and reproduce the data on the students' computers. In the lecture the lecturer works with a tablet pc with a VNC client installed that shows the interface of the office pc and enables remote access to the office pc.

Use in the Lehrstuhl (sub-division): In recent semester several recordings have been made using TTT. In the 2005/06 winter semester "Info3" and "Programmiersprachen" (programming languages) are recorded using TTT.
