Structure
With its comprehensive, centralized organisation and funding, the TUM Graduate School is the first institution of its kind to be set up at a German university. The Statute of the TUM Graduate School was adopted by the various university committees on 13 May 2009.
Matrix Structure
The TUM Graduate School forms the umbrella organization for all Graduate Programs conducted by TUM:
- Faculty Graduate Centers (specialized/single discipline)
- Thematic Graduate Centers (interdisciplinary/inter-faculty)
The individual Graduate Centers are incorporated in the TUM Graduate School as soon as they fulfill the required framework conditions.
The Management Office of the TUM Graduate School provides the Director and the Management Board with administrative support.
Executive Bodies
Executive bodies of the TUM Graduate School are the Management Board, the Committee of Graduate Center Spokespersons, the Doctoral Council and the Scientific Advisory Council.
The Management Board decides on the strategic orientation of the TUM Graduate School and creates incentives for its ongoing development. It is chaired by the Director of the TUM Graduate School, who simultaneously holds the office of TUM Graduate Dean. Professor Ernst Rank, long-serving Vice-President for Research and Director of the International Graduate School of Science and Engineering (IGSSE), was appointed to this position. Four elected Graduate Center spokespersons and a Doctoral Student representative with his/her deputy complete the Board.
The Doctoral Council gives the doctoral candidates a voice in deciding matters across the university campus. With the elected spokesperson, it obtains a seat in the Academic Senate, consequently lending the body of TUM doctoral candidates their own identity.
