Go international!

The building and maintenance of international networks and co-operations is increasingly gaining importance within research and the industry. You should therefore be gathering your first experiences abroad during your doctorate. This Kick-Off seminar will provide you with tips and resources on how to use and expand your research internationally.

Be Interdisciplinary

Dare to look beyond the obvious and use the stimuli of interdisciplinary approaches for your research project. During this Kick-Off Seminar you will learn how to lead interdisciplinary teams effectively, how to successfully communicate beyond the boundaries of specialist subjects or how to look at your own research in a completely new light.

Science Goes Media

In the academic battle for research grants scientists must be capable of presenting their research successes and intentions in an optimal manner. Therefore the focus of this Kick-Off Seminar is to provide techniques for the precise and media-compatible preparation of your research.

Project Management

“Develop your expertise” Change your point of view: Understand your dissertation as a project and learn more about efficient project management. This Kick-Off Seminar is concerned with various aspects of your first steps as an independent researcher. With a process-oriented view and a broad range of coordinated actions the workshops help to propel your dissertation project effectively.

Leadership and responsibility

Doing a doctorate is a matter of taking over responsibility, too - for your own project, within your research group and in the scientific community. Those who are able to accept responsibility are on their way to leadership. Complement your skills and get prepared to take on the demands that come with leadership and responsibility. Join this Kick-Off Seminar and learn about various aspects of leadership especially regarding interaction, communication and management.

Below are some impressions of past kick-off seminars:

„The organization, the soft-skill seminars, the atmosphere created among the PhD candidates, the closeness with the TUM GS team, the priceless talk of Prof. Dewilde, the food and accommodation were simply fantastic. I really doubt that it can get any better on the next editions.”

“Meeting people from different groups, faculties, countries, let’s meet again!”

“The seminars were extremely helpful.”
