Welcome!
We are pleased that you are joining us for the next Kick-Off Seminar of the TUM Graduate School. Awaiting you are four exiting work days amidst one of the most beautiful landscapes of Bavaria. You are invited, along with about 100 TUM doctoral candidates, to discuss current scientific and research topics as well as to enhance and develop new perspectives on your dissertation. Together with experienced coaches and committed guests, in lectures, workshops and convivial evening activities, you can acquire new ideas and advance your personal network.
The following program elements await you:
1st and 2nd day:
- Address of welcome and introduction to the TUM Graduate School, questions and answers concerning research funding and career paths.
- Keynote address Prof. Dr. Winfried Petry, Scientific Director FRM-II
- Team work on the subject "Earning a doctor´s degree – expectations and challenges", results will be presented at a “marketplace”.
2st and 4nd day:
- There will be 8 courses for you to choose from. You can either participate in two courses each lasting 6 hours or in one course lasting 12 hours. The course options refer to research methods, social and leadership skills, writing techniques, as well as future life and career plans.
- A range of sport activities (table tennis, table soccer, skittles, etc.) will be available in the evenings and during the breaks.
4st day:
- Keynote Speech from Prof. Harald Luksch, Chair of Zoology.
- Seminar review & farewell.
The Kick-Off Seminar begins at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, 10 September 2010, and will end at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, 13 September 2010. Complimentary bus transportation will be available. You can find more details in the seminar´s flyer here.

- Please follow this link to register online.
- In order to participate, you must be a member of the TUM Graduate School. For further information please contact: Andrea Meyer (Tel. 089-289 10603). You can also download a membership application form from the webpage.
- Places will be assigned on a first come first serve basis. The deadline is 22.08.2010.
- The event is financed by the TUM Graduate School and will be of no cost to you. You can cancel your registration without incurring any fee, at the latest by 22.08.2010. For cancellations up until a week before the start of the seminar, a fee of 50 € will be charged. For cancellations afterwards or non-attendance, the full amount of 600 € will be charged.
You need to attend the Kick-Off Seminar within the first 6 months of your membership. Please note, attendance at the Kick-Off Seminar is not a pre-requisite for attending any other transferable skills courses. Please see above the announced dates for 2010.
