Doing research at TUM

As an international researcher at TU Munich you are entitled to use several services provided by the university. On this page you will learn about all you need to have a pleasant stay working at TUM.

Canteen/Cafeteria Card

For your well-being there are canteens/cafeterias (Mensa) on each TUM campus.

In the canteens/cafeterias can only pay electronically - either with your PersonalCard (staff ID) or with a so called Legic-Card. Cash payment is not possible.

Internet-Access

In order to surf on the internet on one of the TUM campuses, each campus disposes of its own Wireless Network (Wlan) that you can use tu access the internet. The Wlan is provided by the Leibniz-Rechenzentrum (lrz). Terms and conditions as well as information regarding the installation of the connection can be found here (in German).

TUM University Library

A successfull research period abroad is not possible without adequate literature. This is the reason why the University Library of TU Munich also offers its services to people doing research at TUM like you do.

Room Finder

To help you find you way in the unknown environment of TUM and to arrive on time for your next meeting although you don't know where it takes place, TUM offers the online Room-Finder.

However, if you get lost in one of the TUM buildings, the best solution is to look out for the direction signs on the walls or to ask one of the passerby who will surely be willing to help you.

Most of the the room numbers have the following format: XX 1234

XX -> corresponds to the building, e.g. MI Mathematics-Informatics Building

1 corresponds to the level

2 corresponds to the wing / court (in MW)

3,4 correspond to the actual room number in the building

Other Services

Zentraler Hochschulsport (ZHS) / Central University-Sports

As TUM researcher the programms and offers of the ZHS are at your disposal. Further information can be found on the ZHS website which is in German:

TUM Language Centre

During the regular semester, the Language Center offers German courses at all levels defined by the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) to students, doctoral candidates, and visiting scholars of the Technical University Munich. Further information can be found on the following website:

Family Service

If you have children, the TUM Family Service might be interesting for you. This service supports members of TUM having children or caring for other relatives. Further information can be found on the following website which is in German:
