Mobile Communications
In Germany we have a very good mobile communications network which allows
you to communicate while being on the way. The network providers are T-Mobile
(D1), Vodafone (D2), E-Plus (E+) and O2 (O2). These providers as well as some
other telecommunication companies offer different solutions for mobile communication.
Basically, two alternatives can be distinguished: mobile contracts/ plans and
prepaid tariffs.
A mobile plan can be concluded with any telecommunication enterprise of
your choice. It is interesting for you, if you make a lot of calls as calling
rates are low. However, there is a monthly fee that you have to pay. Some plans
include a certain number of free minutes, text messages or even a cell phone.
Most plans have a fixed duration and can only be cancelled after that period
(generally two years). So please pay attention to the minimum term of the
contract and the cancellation period.
Alternatively, those who need the cell phone only for a few phone calls can
use a prepaid tariff. After buying a cell phone with a prepaid plan you need to
charge it with money. It can be charged in supermarkets, kiosks and other
points of sale. The calling rates are higher than those with a contract;
however, there is no monthly fee.
Generally, mobile phones can be bought in electronic
markets such as Media Markt, Saturn, Promarkt etc. or directly at the stores of
the telecommunication providers – regardless whether you want a contract or a
prepaid plan.
Please note that international calls can be very expensive using a cell phone!
Please note that this is not a complete list of mobile services providers!
