Activities of the TUM EMERITI OF EXCELLENCE
As independent advisers, the TUM EMERITI OF EXCELLENCE play a valuable role in all areas of university life – as organizers, coordinators and representatives. The President consults with them regularly on specific development topics. They are members or reporting members of appointment committees, are involved in setting up or developing new facilities and make themselves available as mentors to undergraduate and doctoral students.
The TUM EMERITI OF EXCELLENCE are currently involved in the following activities:
- Mentoring gifted students as part of the TUM: Junge Akademie program
- Providing support for doctoral students and participating in TUM Graduate School programs
- TUM-IAS Carl von Linde Senior Fellow
- Membership of Board of Trustees des TUM Institute for Advanced Study
- Membership of Advisory Board des TUM Institute for Advanced Study
- Providing advice on research funding applications, e.g. as part of 2012-2017 Excellence Initiative
- Overseeing faculty appraisals (TUM Quality Management)
- Leading and supporting TUM Leonardo da Vinci Zentrum für Bionik
- Founding and active membership of the scientific advisory council of Munich Aerospace - Fakultät für Luft- und Raumfahrt e. V.
- Co-managing projects at KAUST (cooperation with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology)
- Managing trusts and fundraising
- Ombudsman of TUM
- Expanding and strengthening international networks
- Acting as reporting members, members and advisers in TUM appointment committees
- Membership of interdisciplinary TUM EMERITI OF EXCELLENCE think tank
- Membership of President’s strategic perspectives committee
- Representing TUM at international trade fairs, conferences and conventions
