FAQ 'FAQ: Account, Login, Login names, Password, TUM User Name, MWNID'

How can I get an (TUMonline etc.)-Account?

Existing (myTUM-)Accounts continue to be valid. If you have diffculties with yor password please refer to this article.

Applicants

  • To apply to university your create an account in TUMonline (http://campus.tum.de) .
  • There you login with your private eMail-Address as loginname and your chosen password.
  • Being an applicant, you can login only at TUMonline. Access to further systems is granted after immatriculation, or at the begin of the semester.

Students

  • If you have created an account for applicants during application, this account will be changed to a student account automatically after admission, immatriculation and the start of the semester. Please create yourself an TUM-mail-address (eg. joe.bloggs@mytum.de). This Adress is your new loginname. This (German) documentation shows the neccessary steps to crate an email-address and a mailbox.
  • Even if you did not apply via TUMonline, you have a student account. It is your mytum-account. In case of problems please mail to it-support@tum.de to find out your credentials.
  • As loginname for TUMonline use your TUM-mail-address (eg. joe.bloggs@mytum.de) or your TUM user name (eg. mo12tor).

Employees

  • As an employee an account will be created automatically with your employment.
  • Please go to your user administrator (German Benutzerverwalter) in your organisational unit (chair, department etc.) She/he can create a PIN-Code for you. With this PIN-Code you can log in and create a password and an email-address.
  • As loginname for TUMonline use your TUM-mail-address (eg. joe.bloggs@tum.de) or your TUM user name (eg. mo12tor).

Guests

  • Accounts for guests are crated by a guest administrator (German: Gästeverwalter).
  • Please go to your guest administrator at your organisational unit (chair, department etc.). He will create an account and give your a PIN-Code. With this PIN-Code you can log in and create a password and an email-address.
  • As loginname for TUMonline use your TUM-mail-address (eg. joe.bloggs@tum.de) or your TUM user name (eg. mo12tor).
  • You will find further information about guest accounts here

First time Login

When you login in the first time or when your put your student account into use you should necessarily create a @mytum.de and as employee/guest additionally a @tum.de email-address. This has several advantages:

  1. You get an easyly to rember login name, eg. joe.bloggs@mytum.de
  2. This eMail Address shows up in your business card in TUMonline
  3. TUM creates a mailbox for you. TUM will send you important messages to this mailbox. Therefore please control this mailbox regularily or forward the mails to another mailbox that your read. How to do this is described here.

A (German, but at least richly illustrated) documentation you find here
