Start-ups at TUM

Scientists, researchers and students looking to bring new technologies to market can rely on a strong support network at TUM. The university has a wealth of experience in advancing promising start-ups. Since 1990, it has been the launch pad for around 380 companies, which currently employ around 11,000 people. Entrepreneurs looking to transfer great research ideas to the business world will always find the right partner for every stage of the start-up process at TUM.

The Office for Research & Innovation (TUM ForTe)  provides advice on start-up and patent opportunities. The  UnternehmerTUM Center for Innovation and Business Creation at TUM has an extensive portfolio of services geared to the needs of start-ups plus a venture capital fund targeting TUM’s core areas – information and communication technologies, clean technologies, medical engineering and life sciences. Faculty-specific entrepreneurship ambassadors are also on hand to share experiences and expert advice with up-and-coming entrepreneurs. New ventures looking to benefit from proximity to TUM have the option of setting up their business at the gate or IZB start-up centers on the Garching and Weihenstephan campuses. In addition, budding entrepreneurs will find help in resolving just about any challenge within TUM’s extensive network, which includes partner companies.
